UP Govt Decision: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step regarding the safety of school students. The state government is going to make it mandatory to install CCTV in school vans that transport children to school. The notification issued by Transport Principal Secretary L Venkateshwarlu said that this provision will come into force three months after the date of publication of the notification in the Gazette.
According to a letter issued by the state government on December 29, CCTV cameras are now mandatory in all school vans in the state to ensure the safety of school children. This provision is already present in the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicle Rules and CCTV cameras have also been installed in some school vans. Now in the notification, the deadline has been fixed for installing CCTV cameras in all the school vans of the state. Vehicle owners and school operators will be given three months time to get these installed. Strict action will be taken if rules are violated, says UP Govt.
Once the proposed centralized vehicle location tracking center is ready to function, such cameras will be installed in all public transport vehicles. The Transport Department has already appointed a private agency for the implementation of Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS) in the state. The agency is empowered to deploy, integrate, test and operate vehicle tracking platforms for tracking and monitoring of vehicles under the framework.
The project seeks to connect all public transport vehicles except two-wheelers, three-wheelers and e-rickshaws with vehicle location tracking devices and the location of all such vehicles will be monitored in real time by an integrated control and command.
